FAQs

You know all about FIGMENT… You're ready to dive in… but you still have some questions!

What are the hours of FIGMENT?
FIGMENT is open: Saturday, November 8th from 11am to 5pm.

What if it rains?

FIGMENT is a rain or shine event. Some of the artwork is indoors, but if it looks like it’s drizzling, you may want to bring an umbrella or remember what it was like to be a kid and play in the rain.

What are the deadlines?

KEY PROJECTS WILL BE GIVEN PLACEMENT IN THE PARK ON A ROLLING BASIS (meaning first come, first served). The sooner you submit your art, the easier it will be for us to accommodate your placement request. If you have a large project or a project that requires specific placement or infrastructure, please submit it as soon as possible so that we can accommodate it. To submit details about your project, please go to artistportal.figmentproject.orgThe final deadline for project submission is September 30, 2014.

I didn't submit my art / project before the deadline. Can I still bring it?
YES! We would love you to bring your art and projects! Non-registered art is welcome at FIGMENT. If your piece is mobile, musical, or performance-based feel free to wander into the park, set up, and GO. If your piece has a large physical component and needs to be installed please check-in with our Placement Team at the Mosswood Park parking lot on Webster and 36th. Placement starts at 8am and will go all day. Just look for the volunteers in bright pink shirts. Questions? Email the Curation Team at oaklandart@figmentproject.org

Please note that we cannot provide amphitheater access or power to non-registered pieces. However, feel free to bring your own platform stage or generator if those elements are crucial to your work. You cannot bring anything that needs to be staked into the ground, be connected to a power source (unless you provide your own power source) or wants to be scheduled for a performance area.

When bringing non-registered pieces to FIGMENT Oakland, please leave your climbing structures, trampolines, bouncy castles, or fire art at home as those art forms are not allowed at Mosswood Park

How can I find out what will be at FIGMENT?

You can look at our schedule / list of projects and artists from our website in advance. Specific event details, including a schedule of performances in the outdoor amphitheater, crafts in and around Mosswood Recreation Center and activities and games outside is available on our Oakland Event Details page

Details about the 2014 artists are available at http://oakland.figmentproject.org/projects_2014. Because we are a Leave No Trace event, we will not print individual maps or schedules for participants. Come! Explore the grounds and see the magic that is at every corner.

Is it really free?
Yes, FIGMENT is 100% free for everyone to participate and enjoy. We run entirely on donations, and we welcome any contribution you are able to make. We appreciate donations so please donate to help us cover our event costs. We can't do it without YOUR participation and help!

FIGMENT Project is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Thank you for your support in creating free collaborative arts events and exhibitions that are open to everyone to participate in as artists and creators!

What should I bring?
You should plan to bring water and food for sure. Bring a picnic! There are picnic tables scattered throughout the park, or better yet bring a blanket and find some space on the lawn. For other items, please see our What to Bring page!

Can I bring my dog?
If your dog is well behaved and you promise to watch it at all times, then yes. Mosswood Park allows dogs as long as they are on-leash. All dogs need to be on leash at all times.
